Men will act in ways that make a young woman like myself possess the spirit of an old trucker who’s been driving alone on the road for years and can’t trust any body and is crinkly from the sun and sometimes through the radio he’ll feel less alone for a second he’ll talk to someone sharing the road with him for a second then that’s over and it’s him again driving driving and he has a beef jerky stick in his hand and his eyes are so squinted that he looks like he’s scowling even though he’s NOT scowling and he’s not such a rough old man he will have little flashes now and again of his old teddy bear in his old childhood bed blue plaid bedsheets the light coming through the window in speckles the streams of dust levitating in the light and his old friend the bear with one ear cut off and that vision will find the trucker and he’ll see it and smell it and a tear may come to his eye from it but NO MATTER it’s an indifferent world out there anyway isn’t it when you’re a trucker with no body calling you back home. That is how a man will make a GIRL feel. Not like a FLOWER or a BIRD. He will make you FEEL like a smelly dirty rough sorry old lonesome trucker who hasn’t shaved his face in too long but no matter anyways WHO’S LOOKING AT HIM. A man will make you feel like an old man, he’ll weather you like that! An you’ll have to be strong like a SAILOR and cursing all the time like a sailor too. And you’ll straighten up with your back slouched and you’ll keep trucking along anyway. An old man with dirty lonesome teeth. An old man with tired lonesome lips. An old man who never even took up smoking and is nice in the kitchen when he gets in a kitchen and has nice hands too but no matter anyway!!! No matter anyway. A man will look at you like you are a flower that could open for him in the peak of spring. Whole time inside you’re an old trucker who knows he’ll have to hit the road in the morning anyway.
